The Art Deco Suite (Slideshows I and II) pays visual tribute to the hundreds of craftspeople (considered artists in their own right by Mark Venaglia) that created the murals, metalwork, textiles and sculpture which adorn the buildings of the 1920s and 1930s.
The images in Venaglia’s ART DECO SUITE are meticulously researched. Based upon primarily American architecture erected during the first third of this century, each image synthesizes historical aesthetics with contemporary commentary. Mythology is retold by the artist within the Deco genre.
This Series provides light-infused glimpses of the hope filled and idealist world in which Industry, Progress and Culture were once allies. First named during a pivotal exhibition at Manhattan’s Radio City Music Hall in the early 1960s, we shall forever remember it as Art Deco.
