“The paintings I create are to inspire and heal those who work so passionately and perpetually for the environment- to renew their spirits. The art I create is also to recruit more green converts- I want my solar powered toaster oven! My paintings depict the full spectrum of earth’s offerings. Beyond Birkenstocks, economic elitism or grungie misanthropy, green is about rejuvenation of every human’s being. We are all citizens of planet earth. Working with technology, instead of blaming it, will solve the ecological problems of the 21st century.”
Consistency of creativity mandates that the artist always live and paint in the same lofts. From Manhattan to Hawaii, Mark’s ecoconscious devotion to healthy ingredients arises from practicality and domestic necessity. Materials which exceed all EPA requirements, and are now classified nonVOC, have been a part of Venaglia’s studios since 1982. For 26 years, the artist has incorporated meditation and organic foods into his lifestyle. Currently, he advises many companies in expansion of their corporate art collections to include acquisitions of Green Art.
It is now a common practice to drape an entire home in muslin to remedy chronic fatigue and related disorders. Mark has created works of art which glorify nature and the Earth Mother, specifically, on organic muslin since 1982. Only water based, non toxic products are used to install Mr. Venaglia’s murals. The artist’s practice of a green lifestyle is further demonstrated by the reclaimed glass jars used in his studio- most are older than Al Gore’s bottles of moisturizer.
The artist’s work has been continually exhibited in environmentally aware environments like The Green Life and Cisco Home Design. All paintings and murals by Mr. Venaglia are rendered in Casein Fresco on muslin. Casein Fresco paint is rich in natural pigments. It is a product that is low impact, low inherent energy in production and is easy on the planet. The Casein Fresco binder bonds the paint into the organic muslin fibers, providing a sustainable, non-petrochemical alternative to standard oil and acyclic paints. It is produced in small batches at only one ecofriendly, New York location. You may now have your Venaglia originals or artist enhanced giclee prints mounted on certified sustainable wood stretcher bars. Prices quoted per specific commission.
Mark designed the new green logo for ASID’s first EcoExpo in 2008 and continues to assist LA companies in reflecting their commitment to green within their redesigned logos. He served as Artist in Residence to the nation’s first alternative care Aids and cancer retreat in Sedona, Arizona and continues to offer art making workshops throughout southern California. Sponsored by Outward Bound Adventures and The Children’s Museum of Los Angeles, every art project is composed of reclaimed materials.
You may view Pasadena’s only exterior mural diptych at Euclid and Cordova. Selected out of 3,000 artists to create this landmark public art component for the city, Nature reigns supreme in the artist’s composition. Pasadena continues to be a fortuitous location for this former Manhattanite. He was also the featured Green Artist in ASID’s 43rd annual Showcase House.
